To realize his greatness Diego Maradona
can validly be quoted. “He is the best rival I have ever had. I guess
that is enough to define him”, Said Diego Maradona in his autobiography
“Yo soy el Deigo”. He holds the world record of being the only single
player playing the most matches in football World Cups. He represented
his country, West Germany, in five FIFA World Cups –from 1982 to 1998 in
which he played 25 matches scoring 5 goals. He is the only German
player to receive the award of FIFA World Player of the Year. Yes! You
are right, the 7th position in the best ever footballers
belongs to Lothar Herbert Mattäus. Born on 21st March 1961, he played
150 International Football matches –among which 83 were for West Germany– for Germany in his long career of 20 years. He scored 23 goals.
He led the West Germany to win the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He was a
versatile and complete footballer. 1.74 meters tall, he was popularly known for his skills of perceptive passing, positional sense and powerful shooting.
